Annual recycling rates in Germany
The Verpackungsgesetz (Packaging Act) has set recycling targets by material type that system operators must achieve. The systems collect, sort and recycle the packaging waste that accumulates in Germany. Each year, the ZSVR reports on the actual recycling rates of packaging volumes managed by these systems.
Development of actual system participation
The degree of system participation is calculated based on the participation volumes and the market volumes of packaging that is subject to system participation. However, it is important to note that the ZSVR does not have access to the market volumes for this packaging; these must be determined through market research studies. Additionally, data for the pandemic years is neither representative nor comparable due to market distortions and new deposit regulations. It is not clear at present when a new study makes sense.
