Quick check: Do these obligations apply to me?

Regardless of what type of packaging you use to distribute your goods commercially in Germany, you have to be registered with the LUCID Packaging Register. If you distribute your goods in retail, grouped, shipment or service packaging subject to system participation, you have additional obligations under German packaging law to fulfil.

Registering with the LUCID Packaging Register is just the first step. You also have to take financial producer responsibility and pay for the recycling of your packaging by participating that packaging in a system. This also applies if you hire a fulfilment service provider to send your packaged goods to your customers for you, or in similar situations. Use our quick check to find out if your packaging is subject to system participation. All you need to do is answer a few questions.

Please note that our quick check does not cover every scenario. That is why it is important that you also check your obligations by reviewing the information on our website or by contacting a consultancy services provider if you are unsure.

What you need to know

Then you will have to carry out a quick check for each separately – e.g. once for shipment and once for retail and/or grouped packaging.

The quick check does not cover

  • cases involving fulfilment service providers and drop shipping (for details, please see the information linked in the quick check),
  • transport packaging and
  • packaging for hazardous contents.

You will find a link labelled 'What does this mean?' under each question in the quick check. Click these links to access additional information.
